Art Saves Lives Fundraiser
Limited Edition Print of “Angel Unawares”
Kimberly Ramey, artist
While preparing to open Backstreet four years ago, we sold limited-edition prints of “Angel Unawares,” raising more than $3,000 to renovate the space we now occupy.
We now have a new series of limited-edition prints of Kim’s original painting. Funds raised from sales of these prints will help fund building of an outdoor classroom space so we can all create art together again!
The original painting of “Angel Unawares” was inspired by the emotional photography of artist Louis Giusto and by paraphrasing of an ancient text: “Show kindness to strangers, for you may have the privilege to entertain angels unawares.”
“There was a time years ago when I did not immediately offer to help an elderly, homeless man who was buying a few food items for himself,” says Kim. “Moments later, I turned to offer to pay for his groceries, but he had vanished. I searched, but never found or saw him again. That episode was decades ago, but the memory still haunts me.
“The activities of Backstreet is one way I can continue to atone for that long-ago oversight, and ‘Angel Unawares’ is representative of how we all have the privilege of showing kindness to strangers.”
Each “Angel Unawares” print is signed and numbered. The piece is printed on high-quality watercolor paper, matted, and measures 14” x 16.75.”
